About the Team

Charles Reed, DDS
Co-Director/ Co-Chief Instructor

Dr. Reed received his B.S. degree in Biology from Loyola University of Chicago, in 1979. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Loyola University School of Dentistry in 1982. Following his graduation he entered Loyola University’s Department of Orthodontics, where he obtained a certificate in Orthodontics in 1984. After researching the application of MRI and CT imaging of the TMJ, he received his Masters of Science degree from Loyola University School of Dentistry in 1991. Dr. Reed is owner and CEO of Reed Orthodontics in Centennial and Denver, Colorado and Co-owner and Managing Member of Premier School of Dental Assisting, LLC in Colorado. He is currently a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, Colorado Dental Association, Colorado Orthodontic Association and the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists.

Douglas Smith, DDS
Co-Director/ Co-Chief Instructor

Dr. Smith received his B.S. in General Science from the University of Iowa in 1986 and his D.D.S. also from Iowa in 1990. He moved to Denver and joined the Cody Dental Group in 1990 and became a partner in 1993. He has completed the entire continuum of the L.D. Pankey Institute (for post doctoral training) and has been voted as a 5280 Magazine Top Dentist in 2010-2012. He serves as president of the Denver Academy of Restorative Dentistry from 2007 – present and is the co-founder of Premier School of Dental Assisting. Dr. Smith is a member of the ADA, CDA and MDDS constituent societies of dentistry.

Kelli Rose
Registrar/ Administrator

Mrs. Rose has had extensive experience in the dental/orthodontic field for 34 years. She originally assisted in dentistry for 15 years in Albuquerque, NM and moved to the Denver metro area in 1991. Kelli served an additional 9 years as a clinical orthodontic assistant before transferring to a business office role as a treatment coordinator. Here she assisted in educating potential patients in the benefits of dental health. She has worked for Dr. Charles Reed for 24 years.

Jonathan C. Boynton, DDS
Instructor- Periodontics

Dr. Boynton is a board certified periodontist. He graduated from Columbia University in the city of New York in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. He completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston in 2007. Dr. Boynton completed his residency in advanced periodontal therapies at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine in 2010. Dr. Boynton joined the Cody Dental Group as a periodontal and implant surgical specialist in 2011.

Tera Van Houten, DDS
Instructor- Pediatrics

Dr. Van Houten completed her schooling in Southern California, receiving her bachelor’s degree from the University of San Diego. She completed her doctorate degree from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry and her post-doctorate pediatric dentistry training at the University of Southern California and Children’s Hospital of Orange County. Dr. Van Houten completed her board certification and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She specializes in treating patients from 12 months old through adolescence and is completely trained and experienced in treating patients with special care needs.

David Singer, DDS
Instructor

Dr. Singer graduated from Tulane University in 1997 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Cell and Molecular Biology. He completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in 2001. Dr. Singer has served as an adjunct faculty member at the Community College of Denver School of Dental Hygiene. Dr. Singer is a member of the American Dental Association, the Colorado Dental Association, the Metropolitan Denver Dental Society, the Denver Academy of Restorative Dentistry and the Psi Omega Dental Fraternity. Dr. Singer practices full time at the Cody Dental Group.

Emily E. Gillen
Instructor

Mrs. Gillen has been a dental assistant for 12 years primarily serving in the orthodontic field. She also has experience as a New patient coordinator, x-ray technician, lab technician, and front office receptionist. She is also certified in CPR. She is currently working for Dr. Charles F. Reed as a clinical assistant in orthodontics in both Centennial and Denver.

Candace Kemp
Instructor

Ms. Kemp earned her dental assisting and x-ray certification in 2004 at Dental Dynamics Dental Assisting School. She moved from Louisiana to the Denver metro area in 2009. She is certified in CPR. Ms. Kemp is currently working as a clinical assistant and OSHA coordinator for Dr. Charles Reed in Centennial and Denver.

Michelle Perry
Instructor

Mrs. Perry has twelve years of orthodontic assistant experience. She received her training from her current employer, Dr. Charles Reed. Mrs. Perry is x-ray certified, CPR certified, and has had updated training from OHSA. She also has four years experience as a Marketing Coordinator/Representative. This includes representing the Practice to its referral base through the execution of various networking and relationship-building activities. Prior to becoming an orthodontic assistant, she had experience as an Administrative Assistant for eight years. She volunteers at her church, where she is involved in teaching many groups of people. Mrs. Perry previously served as head of the Women’s Ministry for three years, where she lead classes, organized events, and was a leader/mentor. Currently, she is a leader/mentor in her church’s Youth Group and church community.

Suzanna T. Royal
Instructor

Mrs. Royal earned her Dental Assisting and Radiology Certificate on 2007 at Colorado School of Dental Assisting. Prior to becoming an Orthodontic Assistant, she had experience in Customer Service/Sales for 4 years working for US Airways and a Visa and MasterCard Processor. She has worked in the Orthodontic Industry since receiving her certificate for the last 5 and a half years. She is currently working for Dr. Charles Reed at Reed Orthodontics in Centennial Colorado, as an Orthodontic Assistant, Social media coordinator, and Instructor for in house school tours.

Diana Vanderbilt
Instructor

Mrs. Vanderbilt has worked in the field of dentistry since 1996. She started working as a dental lab assistant; then moving on to orthodontics and pediatrics, where she became head of hygiene. In 2001, Diana started in general dentistry, working with Dr. Douglas Smith at Cody Dental Group as his chairside assistant. Diana also has a background in graphic design and facial aesthetics. She continues to further her education by attending seminars and workshops in dentistry and aesthetics.
